La Vista High School FNL leaders have been very busy completing a two year project focusing on the Tot Lot Law, AB 188. This law states that smoking and disposal of tobacco-related trash is prohibited within 25 feet of playgrounds/tot lot areas. In January 2007, FNL leaders surveyed parks in the City of Fullerton for the required AB188, smoking prohibited signs. None of the parks had signage regarding this issue but all parks had a fair amount of tobacco-related trash in the tot lot areas. The leaders wrote a letter to city council, including photos of findings and followed it up with a presentation at the December 4th, 2007 council meeting. The Fullerton City Council members welcomed the FNL leaders and shared the news that their letter motivated them to look into AB 188 and that they were in the process of posting the required signage. May 23, 2008, the FNL leaders re-surveyed the local parks and found the appropriate signage at all parks.
