Advisors should be willing to:
- Engage youth in problem solving, decision making, and developing interpersonal communication skills
- Become an adult ally or partner (establish a positive and meaningful relationship with youth)
- Provide a structure for youth to succeed
- Be a positive adult role model
- Have clearly defined goals and high expectations
- Provide a fun and safe environment for youth to form positive peer relationships
- Display a genuine interest in young people
- Celebrate youth's successes and recognize their self-determination
