What are good weekly or monthly lunchtime activities to generate renewed energy and recruitment?

• Host a few meetings of Icebreaker games and team builder activities
• Raffle promotional items
• Music and games like jump rope
• Relay games with music
• Pie eating contest
• The "wrap a kid" or "mummy wrap" game
• Crazy socks day with prizes
• Drunk driving simulation activity
• A tobacco prevention run/walk

How do chapters shift from the alternative activities to what the actual purpose of FNL/CL/FNL Kids truly is?

• Develop club vision and goals
• Guest Speakers
• Require club members to participate in a few community service/social action projects in order to attend the fun events
• Have the social events be an "extra" to the program or be a reward for involvement
• Develop a mission statement with the chapter

How can I retain chapter members?

• Highlight faithful members in the school newspaper or announcements.
• Feed them!
• Plan club competition games
• Have fun activities to keep the energy up
• Follow community service projects with a fun activity, as a reward for involvement
• Select younger members to go to trainings, etc. so they are ready to run the club for a year or so.
• Start with freshman or 6th graders and build from there
• Reach out to the "nvisible kids"- the ones who don't belong to many clubs and need opportunities to be leaders on their campus. Ask teachers or counselors to refer youth.

How can I gain financial support for the program?

• Host fundraisers
• Ask local Lions or Kiwanis Clubs for money to support activities and projects
• Sell membership cards at a cost as a way to raise funds.
• Attend TV show tapings- they pay $10.00 per student
• TUPE Grant
• Title IV Money
• Utilize Chamber of Commerce services for business contacts and fundraising ideas.
• Sell snacks at school events
• Utilize school business partners
• Get a local business sponsor

How can I get my chapter involved in their community?

• Find community sponsors
• Volunteer in the community
• Network
• Make presentations on FNL/CL/FNL Kids to local Chamber of Commerce, City Council, Lions Club, Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club, etc.

How can I gain support from School Administration?

• Have club leaders do a presentation to the school board, school staff, and administration
• Invite them to attend a club meeting
• Communicate successes and highlights to administration and district staff.
• Publish and distribute an occasional newsletter to staff, administration, parents, etc.
• Have the club members do a teacher/staff appreciation event

How can we utilize our community resources to benefit FNL/CL/FNL Kids?

• Ask school business partners for donations
• Have your chapter members research community resources they would like to approach
• Invite community members to meetings, like the local police, elected officials, etc. for members to outreach to community people.
• Present to the Chamber of Commerce or the City Council

How does your chapter get the most out of the lunchtime meeting?

• Give hall passes for members or leaders to get out early
• Write out the agenda and post it to keep youth focused
• Set up the room ahead of time
• Post the vision/goals of the chapter
• Only have 1-3 agenda items for each meeting
• Plan ahead so the leaders know what the agenda is and are ready to run the meeting
• Have a flyer with all miscellaneous announcements that they can take with them and read later

How can I get parents involved?

• Invite them to a meeting
• Ask them to help/chaperone activities and events- give them a role
• Have an information table at Back to School or Open House Night
• Do a youth presentation to school parent groups letting them know what the program is and what members do
• Hold parenting sessions on current issues- have the youth involved in the workshop

How can I get the students to plan and facilitate meetings and activities?

• Have a training on how to run a meeting, create an agenda, etc.
• Let the students plan activities step-by-step and use a calendar to estimate how much meeting/planning time they will need
• Have one person be in charge of the agenda and select certain members to plan each event
